Is In-Home Care for Me?

You are a senior adult who wants to enjoy life within the comfort of your own home but may need a little extra help to make that happen.

You may benefit from help with things like dressing, cooking, shopping, housekeeping, transportation, bathing, medication reminders, etc.; you might also enjoy the company of a caring and capable companion to provide you with the assistance you need.

You are a family caregiver providing physical care and emotional support for your aging loved-one at home.

You’re a spouse, child, sibling or even a friend!  This can be a rewarding experience, but even the most enthusiastic caregiver may feel unprepared or inadequate when faced with providing a really good level of care consistently and for an extended period of time.

It may be time to get a little extra help with the caregiving and allow yourself to spend more time in your own role as - Spouse - Child - Sibling - Friend!  You need time to rest, recuperate and regenerate; time to take care of yourself and enjoy some much needed respite knowing that your loved-one is in caring and capable hands.

You are a “long-distance” family caregiver, concerned about your aging loved-one.

Your loved-one has no close family nearby to check on them and look after their well-being.  You need the peace and assurance that their needs are being met, that they are safe and that you have a trusted care team in place when you can’t be there yourself.

You are an adult coming home from a stay at the hospital to recuperate.

You need help with your daily activities for a short time as you regain your strength and you prefer to do this at home, not in a rehab setting.

You may have some health challenges and benefit from a trusted relationship with a caregiver who provides quality care at home and can keep you from reoccurring emergency hospital visits.

Asking for help is more than okay - It’s a life-giving necessity!

What are the Benefits of In-Home Care?

Choosing in-home care allows loved-ones to remain in the comfort and security of their own homes.

This allows them to age in place with the familiar surroundings, personal belongings, and precious memories that only a home can hold! Whether home is a house, apartment, assisted living facility or nursing home.

You and your loved-one will take the lead in helping to create a unique care plan and appropriate schedule based on your individual needs and preferences.

Our goal is to accommodate you; to listen and understand exactly what you need and expect.  The process isn’t complicated but it is thorough and foundational to the best in-home care experience.

Your caregiver or “care team” provide one-on-one care and they are dedicated to you and your needs!

We have exceptional caregivers available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year!  Do you need a few hours a week, overnight help, a live-in caregiver or maybe just some time off to rest and regroup?  Perfect! Care is available for just a few hours or around the clock.

The cost of in-home care services is based on the number of hours you need each week, and sometimes the level of care.

You will not be paying for time or services that you do not need or desire.  This means in-home care is typically an economical option, and good value, as compared to assisted living or nursing home care.

Medicare does not currently pay for at-home care services, but some long-term insurance policies will reimburse for these expenses.

Something to think about: Financial advisors note that family caregivers who reduce their work hours or leave their job entirely to care for their loved-one need to consider not just the lost wages but also the company pension and Social Security benefits.

Caring for the Caregiver - You!

What do you do if you’re on an airplane and an oxygen mask descends in front of you?

We all know this one by heart - Put on your own oxygen mask before you try to help anyone else with theirs!  The same concept applies to caregiving:  You have to help yourself first to effectively help others.

Caring for yourself is one of the most important, and one of the most often forgotten things you can do as a caregiver.

When your needs are taken care of, the person you care for will benefit too!

Roughly 30% of caregivers die before those they are caring for. Some studies show deaths higher; with a mortality rate of 50%+ for those caring for loved-ones suffering with dementia.

Illness that doesn't lead to death is rampant, as well - depression and autoimmune diseases are high on the list. Caregivers often don't find time to go to their own doctor appointments. They put them off, because they are too busy, or are just plain tired of sitting in clinics with their loved-ones.

Caregivers are as important as the people they care for.

If they abuse their bodies, minds, and spirits while caring for others, no one wins. (Source - AgingCare.com)

“There are only four kinds of people in the world. Those who have been caregivers. Those who are currently caregivers. Those who will be caregivers, and those who will need a caregiver.”

Many seniors, and family caregivers, who could benefit from our services are not taking advantage of them.

This is typically due to some common misconceptions about the type of clients we work with, the services provided, and the costs involved. Here is some clarification that will address most of those concerns:

Myth: In-home care is only for those who are very sick.

Truth: Our care is non-medical, and available to any adult who is looking for a little extra help around the house.

This includes help with personal care and hygiene, meal preparation, medication reminders, transportation, etc. or would just enjoy the company of a caring and capable companion.

Myth: The quality of care we would receive at home would be inferior to care in a facility.

Truth: Our care is highly personalized, one-on-one care with a dedicated caregiver or care team that comes to you, to meet your unique needs.

We work according to the care plan and schedule which you help us create and have the flexibility to make changes to these quickly and as needed.

Our caregivers are highly trained and oriented to their clients before they ever make their first visit. Although we provide only non-medical care we employ only experienced caregivers with the majority being either Certified Nursing Assistants, Home Health Aides or Personal Care Assistants.  We perform extensive background checks on all of our employees and we are insured and bonded for your further protection.

Myth: In-home care is expensive and only wealthy people can afford it.

Truth: The cost of our care services is based on the number of hours you need each week, and sometimes the level of care.

You will not be paying for time or services that you do not need or desire.  This means in-home care is typically an economical option, and good value, as compared to assisted living or nursing home care.

Medicare does not currently pay for at-home care services, but some long-term insurance policies will reimburse for these expenses.

Myth: I’m am providing the care for my loved-one and I don’t need any help.

Truth: To remain healthy and strong - physically, emotionally and mentally - we all need a break from time to time.

Caring for a loved-one often turns into a 24/7 job leaving the family caregiver exhausted, emotionally and physically.  Every caregiver needs to have periods of relief so that they have time to recharge and take care of themselves. Our in-home care is the perfect choice to provide care while you rest, regenerate, and refresh.

Myth: My loved-one needs around-the-clock care, so in-home care isn’t an option.

Truth: We provide exceptional around-the-clock care!

Once we visit with you and understand your unique situation and needs, we will create an experienced care team to provide care to your loved-one 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Myth: I’m not 65 or older so I don’t qualify for in-home care.

Truth: While it is true that a majority of our clients are 65 or older, we can assist anyone over the age of 18 who needs a little extra help at home.

This includes those that may have a disability, chronic illness, is on hospice or those recovering from a recent surgery or injury.

Myth: We are using other care options, such as a hospital, assisted living, nursing home or hospice, there is no reason to use in-home care services.

Truth: We are often asked to supplement care provided by hospitals, assisted living centers, nursing homes and hospice.

We work closely with all those involved in your care, including doctors, social workers, and hospice staff, to ensure you are receiving the highest quality of care possible.

These other care options work with you on their set schedule. We are available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - including holidays!

Myth: I won’t have any say about who comes to my home and provides my care.

Truth: Our first priority is to provide you with the best care possible and we always value your input!

Your personality and care requirements will give us a starting point to match you with the perfect caregiver.  However, we understand that sometimes people just don’t “click.”  We’ll need your feedback to know who you are comfortable with and when/if changes to your care team need to be made.

Myth: Home care workers steal from the elderly and/or abuse them.

Truth: There is no denying that this happens and, unfortunately, it gives a bad name to all of the caring and honest caregivers.

This makes it even more important to work with us; an in-home care company that you feel comfortable with and can trust.

Hiring independent “private-duty” caregivers may seem like the best option financially, but it is definitely not the safest. We, as a reputable in-home care company provide you with the assurance that each caregiver has undergone a thorough background and reference check, and is insured and bonded through our company while providing care in your home.
